Travel and Tourism - Vietnam-focused travel experiences - UI/UX Design - 2 months

A travel app does more than organize tours and bookings. For travelers, it often becomes the first place where a destination starts to feel real. Before they visit a new city, book a local experience or arrange transportation, the interface needs to help them discover relevant services quickly and confidently.

In that context, Newwave Solutions designed the UI UX for a travel application that helps travelers discover tours, local experiences, transportation, SIM and eSIM services, attraction tickets and travel packages through one intuitive journey.

Client Context

The client was a Vietnam-based travel company specializing in tourism experiences and travel-related services.

They had an existing web-based ecosystem offering multiple travel services, but needed to transition these services into a mobile-first application to better support modern traveler behavior. As a web-to-app migration project, the objective was not simply to redesign interfaces, but to transform how users access and interact with services—moving from a web-based browsing experience to a seamless, mobile-native journey. The application needed to support multiple service types, including local tours and experiences, transportation, SIM and eSIM packages, attraction tickets, Fast Track services and bundled travel packages. Users needed a simple way to discover and compare these services without feeling overwhelmed by the variety of options available.

Client Stakes

For tourism brands, service discovery plays a direct role in engagement and conversion. If travelers cannot quickly find relevant tours, destinations or supporting services, they are less likely to continue exploring or complete a booking.

The primary challenge was creating a visual interface that made it easy for users to discover Tour & Local Experience services while also navigating other travel-related offerings within the same application.

Tour and experience discovery

Users could struggle to find relevant local experiences if information was not presented clearly.

Multiple service categories

Tours, transportation, tickets, connectivity services and packages needed to be organized intuitively.

Destination exploration

Travelers needed an easy way to discover services based on destinations and locations.

Booking clarity

Complex navigation could create friction between service discovery and booking completion.

Web-to-app experience transition

The migration needed to enhance usability while preserving familiarity from the existing web ecosystem.

Our Approach

As a web-to-app migration project, the UI/UX work focused on transforming existing web-based services into a seamless mobile experience, while improving service discovery and booking clarity.

Newwave Solutions approached the project by analyzing how travelers search for destinations, tours and supporting travel services. Some users arrive with a specific destination in mind, while others prefer to browse and compare options before making decisions.

From this perspective, the design strategy focused on three priorities:

Improve service discovery: Help users find tours and local experiences through a more intuitive interface structure.

Simplify navigation: Organize multiple travel services into clear categories and booking pathways.

Support destination-led browsing: Enable users to explore services through destinations, trends and location-based discovery.

Each screen was designed to reduce friction and help travelers move naturally from discovering services to completing bookings.

Design Decisions

The design direction focused on making travel services easier to discover and navigate within a mobile-first context.

A standout UX decision in this project was the Interactive Map, designed as the core mechanism for location-based exploration on mobile.

Instead of relying solely on lists or filters, the app allows users to click on a specific location on the map to instantly discover relevant services nearby, from tours and attractions to transportation and connectivity options. Each map point acts as an entry point into a contextual service layer, where users can preview offerings tied to that exact location.

This approach reflects a shift from traditional browsing to spatial discovery:

• Users visually scan destinations instead of navigating deep menu structures

• Services are presented in context, based on where the user is exploring

• Discovery becomes more intuitive, especially for travelers unfamiliar with Vietnam

On mobile, this interaction is optimized for touch behavior; users can zoom, pan and tap seamlessly, making exploration feel natural and engaging. The map effectively becomes both a navigation tool and a discovery engine, bridging the gap between “where to go” and “what to do there.”

Collaboration Model

One of the most distinctive aspects of this project was its highly efficient, lean delivery model.

With a lean team structure led by one dedicated Senior UI/UX Designer, Newwave Solutions delivered the entire design scope from requirement analysis to UI/UX design and prototyping in just 2 months.

This single designer was responsible for:

  • Understanding and translating business requirements from the existing web ecosystem
  • Structuring the overall information architecture for a multi-service travel platform
  • Designing end-to-end user flows across tours, transportation, connectivity services and ticketing

Creating high-fidelity UI designs and interactive prototypes

Despite the complexity of the application, covering tours, transportation, SIM/eSIM, Fast Track services, attraction tickets and interactive map-based discovery, the lean setup enabled faster decision-making, tighter design consistency and accelerated delivery timelines.

Rather than presenting services as disconnected offerings, the design brought all travel services into one cohesive mobile experience, helping travelers explore and plan their trips more efficiently.

Risk Handling

  • The most important design risk was creating an interface that contained many travel services without becoming difficult to navigate, especially when transitioning from a web-based structure to a mobile-first experience.

If categories were not structured clearly, users could struggle to find relevant tours, destinations or supporting services. If discovery pathways were too complex, booking completion could be negatively affected.

Newwave Solutions addressed this risk by prioritizing intuitive navigation, destination-led exploration and clear service grouping. Features such as Top Trends, destination showcases, and map-based discovery helped users find relevant services faster while maintaining a straightforward booking journey.
