Connecting Online MatchesThrough Smarter Meetup Planning

Social Network - Japan - Software Development - 6 Members - 20 Months

Online matches do not always become real world meetups. In a competitive matching market, the real challenge begins after users connect. Conversations can continue for too long without turning into action, while mismatched schedules, unclear plans and safety concerns make real world meetups harder to arrange. Our client needed a matching platform that could reduce this gap through smoother discovery, communication, and meetup planning. Newwave Solutions developed a cross-platform solution with integrated matching, communication and management features, helping the client support a safer online to offline matching experience.

Client Context

Our client is a Japan-based client developing a mobile matching app for the Japanese market.

The project focused on the client’s need to create a mobile matching platform that helps users move from online discovery to real world meetups. A basic profile matching app would not be enough for this goal. The product had to support discovery, communication, date planning and community participation in one user journey. It also needed CMS functions for app content, payment flows for points, subscription, purchase restoration and membership management, plus moderation features such as report or block, warning or penalty, banned user control and guideline access through WebView.

Business Stakes

The platform risked becoming another profile browsing app in a competitive market, without a clear path from online matching to real world meetups:

Weak product differentiation

Basic matching and chat were no longer enough to create a clear product position. The client wanted a stronger user journey built around discovery, communication and meetup planning so the app could compete beyond standard matching features.

Low match to meetup conversion

A match only creates business value when users keep moving forward. Busy schedules, unclear date plans, and safety concerns could stop users after the first conversation, limiting repeat usage and weakening the app’s core promise.

Weak communication reliability

Matching apps depend on timely interaction. Delayed chats, missed notifications, inaccurate user status or unstable video calls could interrupt the moment when users are most likely to build trust and continue the relationship.

Friction in paid user flows

Point purchase, subscription and restore purchase were tied directly to monetization. Any confusion or failure in these flows could reduce purchase completion, increase support effort, and make users less willing to pay for premium interactions.

Trust and safety exposure

User behavior control was a business requirement, not just an admin function. Without clear moderation paths for reports, blocks, warnings, or guideline review, the platform could lose community trust and become harder to scale responsibly.

Our Approach

Newwave Solutions designed the product around one goal: helping users move from online interest to real world action with less hesitation. Instead of separating matching, chat, meetup planning, payment, and moderation, the team connected them around the user journey. Registration, profiles, and matching supported discovery, while chat, notifications, status, and video calls helped build trust. Date planning, communities, events, and group interaction encouraged offline engagement, with CMS, payment, and moderation supporting monetization, content control, user management, and safety.

Collaboration Model

Newwave Solutions designed the product around one goal: helping users move from online interest to real world action with less hesitation. Instead of separating matching, chat, meetup planning, payment, and moderation, the team connected them around the user journey. Registration, profiles, and matching supported discovery, while chat, notifications, status, and video calls helped build trust. Date planning, communities, events, and group interaction encouraged offline engagement, with CMS, payment, and moderation supporting monetization, content control, user management, and safety.

Risk Handling

  • The main delivery risk was keeping the matching journey consistent across real time communication, video calls, payments, membership, and moderation. If handled separately, these flows could fragment the experience and weaken user trust. Newwave Solutions therefore aligned each function with the wider journey from matching to interaction and service management. Chat, notifications, and calls supported engagement, while payment and membership flows ensured reliable access to paid features. Moderation controls and CMS capabilities strengthened visibility over user behavior, content, and safety, helping the client maintain a more connected and trustworthy platform experience.

Product Outcomes

Meetup planning and community participation
Meetup planning and community participation

Date planning, friend groups, communities, and events created more reasons for users to return. That strengthened repeat engagement beyond one-to-one matching.

Complete user discovery flow

Safety and moderation control

Report, block, warning, penalty, banned user management and guideline review through WebView gave the client stronger control over user behavior. This reduced trust risks in a safety sensitive matching environment.

CMS based service management
CMS based service management

CMS capabilities improved internal operating control by helping the client manage content, user activity and service rules without relying only on development support.

Business Impact

From a business perspective, the project helped the client strengthen its position in Japan’s competitive matching market by moving beyond basic profile discovery. With communication, date planning, community, and event-based features connected in one product flow, the platform created more reasons for users to continue interaction and move toward real world meetups.

The product also gave the client a stronger foundation for monetization and service operations. Point purchase, subscription and restore purchase flows supported paid feature management, while CMS capabilities helped the client control content, user activity and service rules behind the user facing experience.

Operationally, the platform helped the client manage a trust-sensitive matching service with stronger control. Moderation features supported user behavior management and safer community operations as the service continued to grow.
