Building a Livestream Entertainment Platformfor Creator Engagement

Ecommerce - Livestream Entertainment Platform - Software Development - 7 team members - Backend, Web and Mobile

In today's digital landscape, engagement is not just about attracting users, but creating meaningful interactions that keep people connected and involved. That was the vision behind Up-T Live, a livestream entertainment platform from Japan. Built for anyone to share themselves using only a smartphone, it allows Creators to express their personalities, connect with fans and earn income through livestream activities. Newwave Solutions partnered with the client to develop a scalable web and mobile platform combining real-time streaming, voice interaction, creator tools, gifting systems and ecosystem integration into one experience. The result was a social livestream platform focused on entertainment, community interaction and creator monetization within the ecosystem. The Problem

Client Situation

Our client operates a broader digital ecosystem and wanted to expand into a livestream entertainment and social platform where creators, artists and audiences could connect through real-time experiences.

The platform needed to support livestream broadcasting, audience interaction, voice chat, comments, Dual-Live sessions, creative personalization features, gifting and rewards across both web and mobile environments. Beyond entertainment, the platform also needed to provide legitimate monetization opportunities for Livers through audience engagement and reward systems.

Business Challenges

For the client, livestreaming was more than a content feature. It was a way to help creators share excitement from Japan with audiences around the world while building stronger fan communities and creator monetization opportunities.

However, delivering a successful livestream platform introduced several challenges.

No direct product benchmark

The client was building a unique livestream entertainment experience without a comparable reference system, making UI/UX design, gameplay concepts and feature prioritization more difficult.

User engagement sustainability

Without a compelling and easy-to-follow interaction model, users might lose interest quickly, reducing session time and limiting opportunities for creator monetization.

Legacy ecosystem integration

UpT account synchronization and Upoint transfer needed to feel seamless; any friction could disrupt user journeys and reduce trust in the platform’s overall experience.

Monetization clarity

If gifting, Upoint usage and reward mechanisms were not intuitive, users might hesitate to spend, directly impacting revenue potential for both creators and the platform.

Creator retention and growth

If the platform did not provide a stable and engaging environment for creators to perform and connect with fans, it would be difficult to attract and retain high-quality creators over time.

Our Approach

The team analyzed how creators and audiences interacted before, during and after livestream sessions. Livers needed to start broadcasts quickly using mobile devices. Fans needed to join streams easily, participate through comments and voice chat, and engage through gifting and rewards. Creative tools such as face-shape adjustments, filters and stickers needed to help creators build distinctive livestream experiences.

A critical technical decision during implementation was migrating the livestreaming infrastructure from Wowza to the Agora SDK. This transition was necessary to improve real-time performance, reduce latency, and provide more stable interactive features such as voice chat and Dual-Live sessions

From that product logic, the implementation strategy focused on four priorities:

Enable real-time creator and fan engagement: Support livestreaming, voice chat, comments and Dual-Live experiences within a unified interaction model.

Build a scalable service architecture: Use microservices to support service separation, operational flexibility and future scalability.

Migrate to Agora for real-time streaming: Replace Wowza with the Agora SDK to enhance low-latency streaming, stability and interactive capabilities.

Connect livestreaming with the UpT ecosystem: Integrate account synchronization, Upoint transfer, gifting and rewards into a seamless user experience.

This approach helped ensure that the platform remained engaging for users while maintaining operational stability and ecosystem connectivity behind the scenes.

Technology Stack

The technology direction followed the same product priorities: real-time responsiveness, scalable service structure and smooth connection with the UpT ecosystem.

A key technical decision in this project was transitioning the livestream system from Wowza to Agora SDK. Unlike the previous setup, which struggled with stability during long livestream sessions, Agora provided a more reliable infrastructure capable of sustaining extended broadcasts without degradation in performance. This directly improved user experience for both creators and audiences, especially in scenarios where livestream sessions lasted for hours.

Replaced the previous Wowza-based livestream system to specifically address instability issues during long-duration livestream sessions.

MoleculerJS

MoleculerJS

Served as the backbone for the microservices architecture, enabling clear separation between services such as livestream handling, user interaction, gifting and ecosystem integration.

NextJS

NextJS

Powered the web application with server-side rendering and optimized performance, ensuring fast loading times and better SEO for user-facing livestream pages.

ReactJS

ReactJS

Enabled dynamic and responsive UI components for real-time interaction features such as comments, gifting and livestream engagement.

MongoDB

MongoDB

Provided flexible and scalable data storage for user profiles, livestream sessions, interaction data and engagement activities.

Docker

Docker

Standardized deployment environments across services, simplifying scaling, updates and infrastructure management.

Collaboration Framework

Because the product combined e-commerce, livestreaming, social interaction, monetization and legacy system integration, the delivery process had to stay closely coordinated.

Newwave Solutions worked with the client through a Dedicated-team-based delivery model, supported by a 7-person team covering analysis, management and development functions. The engagement has been ongoing, allowing the team to continuously refine requirements, prioritize features and adapt technical decisions as the product evolved.

JIRA was used to manage delivery tasks and track progress across workstreams. Git supported development collaboration and version control, while Google Sheets helped maintain shared visibility over documentation, feature details and operational planning.

The project gave the client a stable foundation for bringing livestream into its entertainment ecosystem.

For Livers, the platform created opportunities to share their personalities, connect with fans and monetize livestream activities through gifting and rewards. For audiences, the experience became more interactive through real-time conversations, voice participation and Dual-Live engagement.

For the business, the platform connected content, community and creator monetization within a unified ecosystem. Integration with UpT accounts and Upoint transfers helped users move seamlessly between services while strengthening engagement across the broader platform network.

The project successfully completed the defined scope. This milestone reflected the team's ability to address key challenges related to livestream performance, ecosystem integration and deployment complexity while delivering the planned functionality.

Most importantly, the platform fulfilled its original vision: enabling anyone to instantly share themselves with the world using only a smartphone while creating meaningful connections between creators and audiences.
